Do Good with Travis Forinash with Hampton Roads Electric, Inc

I am Doing Good!!!

No one can tell you if you are or are not. Being a business owner is lonely and isolated.

“Good” concerning running and growing a business, hiring & training employees, providing a culture where everyone can win for all.

As the business owner have at least a life to spend time with your significant other/spouse, kids and pursue any other community’s interests outside of the business.

You cannot talk to your family, your friends, your employees, and other business associates about the challenges and struggles of running a business.

They do not understand.

If you have questions or ideas or want to talk your stuff out in your head who do you go too?

Someone who will not judge you but help you work through what you are thinking or at least validate, challenge or encourage you are on the right track.

As a business owner, you always want to know if you are doing “Good.”

Let me share an inspirational story that I want to share with you.

Imagine this happening to you.

Travis Forinash, the owner of Hampton Roads Electric, Inc.
Travis Forinash
Hampton Roads Electric, Inc can do it from A to Z.

Here is Travis Forinash’s story:

He started in the construction in high school by attending Virginia Beach Technical and Career Education Center.

He went to Tidewater Community College and got a degree in Electrical/Construction, Business Management while working for a local electrical company.

In July 2006, he started his own company, Hampton Roads Electric, Inc.  At his previous company, there was no where to advance, and he felt he could do better in building a company.

Travis and I met about a year and a half ago. He was searching what he called “Better Management Training” of one of his key employees.

He found me through word-of-mouth of several local business owners who recommended him to seek me out.

During our conversations, we came to realize he needed to come up with a training program based on a tier level of service for electrical work with a specific roles.

Each role needed a level of competence associated with each position, and time frames to transition to the next level.

Funny thing, Travis had this process somewhat written down and the rest most of it in his head.

Travis participates in the “The Sounding Board” which is part of the Advisory Service provided by Tanyag & Company.

This service is where the business owner utilizes Tanyag & Company as their “Sounding Board” to work through their challenges, come up with solutions, and grow the business.

Here are some action steps he implemented:

Action Step 1:

Created an All-Day Conference with all the employees to share the vision, mission, and goals and objectives of the company. He wanted “Buy-In” of all employees.

Action Step 2:

Created a compelling message explaining where the direction of the company is going, “Bigger, Better, and Brighter” with the purpose of creating successful people in the company.

Action Step 3:

Created written processes and sharpen existing ones that can be duplicated for specific roles in the company from administrative staff to different levels of technicians for the business and given to people in the company to grow the company.

Here are some results, he experienced.

Result #1:

Double their revenue by focusing on improving their operational processes of the business only.

Result #2:

Develop a tier level training and education process with transitional  time lines to move an electrician from a helper to driving a truck to project manager.

Result #3:

Enjoyed his first vacation 7+ days with his family since he started the business where one of his employees ran the company while he was gone.

During this whole process, He validated his belief, “He is Doing Good.” He realized he is not alone and has his sounding board for him and his business.

We continually work together because he has a sincere desire to grow his business.
